Election Convention Officials
Chair
1. Presides over Convention and assigns specific responsibilities to
other officers.
2. Conducts meetings of Delegation Leaders.
3. Announces results of elections.
4. Relates to State Program Director.
Secretary
1. Keeps official records of attendance, proceedings and elections.
2. Determines Quorum.
3. Accepts responsibilities as assigned by Chairperson.
4. Assists with Registration.
5. Relates to Registrar.
Clerk
1. Calls roll and announces quorum.
2. Accepts responsibilities assigned by Chairperson.
3. Assists in tabulation of votes.
Assistant Clerk
1. Gets completed Certification of Election Cards from all officers alternates.
2. Makes sure all cards are complete, accurate, and filled out.
3. Gives checklist and completed cards to Director at close of Convention.
4. Accepts responsibilities assigned by Chairperson.
5. Assists in allocating positions - verifies accuracy and posts results.
Sergeant-At-Arms
1. Maintains order on convention floor.
2. Enforces Rules of Convention in cooperation with the Chairperson.
3. Assists with assignment of Delegation Caucus rooms and seating on
Convention floor.
4. Accepts responsibilities assigned by Chairperson.
5. Relates to convention coordinator and convention aides.
Chaplain
1. Opens Convention with prayer or inspirational thoughts and the
pledge to the flag.
2. Assists with certification of officers and their alternate.
3. Accepts responsibilities assigned by Chairperson.
4. Relates to State Program Director.
Delegation
1. Coordinates political negotiations.
Leader
2. Presides over delegation caucuses.
3. Attends meetings and/or caucuses of delegation leaders.
4. Casts delegation votes on convention floor as decided by total delegation.
NOTE: If a delegate believes his/her delegation leader has not cast the votes according to the
decision of the total group, he or she may request the chair to conduct a group poll.
Advisor
1. Some advisors are requested to assume responsibility for
registrations, tabulation of votes and the process of allocating positions
for the Model Government Convention.
2. The Advisor of the host club is the Election Convention Coordinator.
3. Advisors may be requested to provide other assistance by the Director.
