Press Corps Positions
Editor-in-Chief
The West will elect the Editor-in-Chief in the even years and the East in the odd years.  The four (4)
reporters with the greatest number of votes, who are not floor nominated, will be eligible to run for
the Editor-in-Chief position. 
Editor-in-Chief candidates who are not elected may accept a floor nomination for reporter.
Additional Qualifications
(g)
Has basic knowledge of journalism and skills necessary for interviewing, reporting, news
writing and editing, and is in good standing in his/her club, school, and community.
(h)
Has ability to organize and supervise a newspaper staff so an effective newspaper is
published and distributed.
(i)
Has ability to set proper deadlines and be certain they are met.
(j)
Possesses a commitment to fair and unbiased reporting of the news and to reporting ONLY
those items directly related to the Model Government Program content.
(k)
Has the ability to relate to members of the public news media.
(l)
Floor nominated reporter candidates are not eligible for the position of Editor-in-Chief.
Responsibilities at Model Government:
1.
Is responsible for the production and distribution of the Model Government Convention newspaper.
11.       May appoint an Assistant Editor from the ranks of the elected Press Corps
2.
Assigns the responsibilities and supervises the work of the reporters and typists.
3.
Conducts press conference at beginning of Convention.
4.
Moderates gubernatorial debate.
5.
Moderation of gubernatorial elections.
6.
Sets deadlines and is responsible to be certain they are met.
7.
Edits articles and reports submitted.
8.
Conducts interviews and writes editorials as deemed necessary, desirable and integrally
related to the program content.
9.
Ensures that all reporting and editorials are fair and unbiased, and that references to partisan
politics are excluded except as related to parties in the Senate of the Convention.
10.
Works in partnership with the staff person assigned.

NOTE: All Reporters WILL attend Officers Training.
Additional Qualifications
(g)
Have skills necessary for interviewing and reporting.
(h)
Have competent writing skill with the ability to express the views of others clearly and
accurately.
(i)
Have the ability to be fair and unbiased, reporting all information objectively.
(j)
Have the ability to seek out and recognize newsworthy information that is related to the
content of the program.
Responsibilities at Model Government:
1.  Gather newsworthy information and write articles as assigned by the Editor-In-Chief, 2.  Meet all
deadlines, 3.  Assist with production of publication, 4.  Assist with distribution of paper, 5.  On
Friday morning, the opening day of the Convention, there will be a Press Conference conducted in
