YMCA PA Youth & Government Program
Judicial Positions
Chief Justice
The Chief Justice for the following year will be elected at the Model Government Convention.  The Justice with the
most votes will be the Chief Justice.  Starting with the 2006 Model Convention, the Chief Justice for
the following year will be elected at the convention.  
Additional Qualifications
(f)
Is well informed and conversant on procedures of the judicial system in Pennsylvania.
(g) 
Has participated previously in the Judicial Program of the Model Government Convention.
(h)
Is an active member of a Youth & Government Club.
Responsibilities: 
1.
Prior to Model Government Convention becomes very familiar with the cases.
2.
Prior to Model Government Convention becomes familiar with court procedures.
3.
Attends Mock Session.
4.
Attends Officer Training day prior to Convention.
5.
Presides over the hearing of cases and manages the work of the court.
Justices
Three justices are elected from each side of the state at the Eastern and Western Elections
Conventions.
Additional Qualifications
(f)
Is well informed and conversant on procedures of the judicial system in Pennsylvania.
(g) 
Has participated previously in the Judicial Program of the Model Government Convention.
(h)
Is an active member of a Youth & Government Club.
Responsibilities: 
1.
Prior to Model Government Convention becomes very familiar with the cases.
2.
Prior to Model Government Convention becomes familiar with court procedures.
3.
Attends Mock Session.
4.
Attends Officer Training day prior to Convention. 
5.
In teams of three will hear and judge the court cases.
Attorneys (not elected)
The clubs that are selected by the Director to participate in this dimension of the Program select
teams of four.  A local attorney must be identified to counsel students.
Attends Mock Session.
Additional Qualifications

Is well informed and conversant on procedures of the judicial system in Pennsylvania.
(g)
Is an active member of a Youth & Government Club.
3.
Responsibilities: 
1.
Will prepare written brief to be submitted at time of registration.
2.
Will be prepared to present oral arguments before the Justices.
