Delegations may abstain from casting their votes or pass and cast their votes at the end of
the roll call. Only one roll call per office or position will be conducted after which the votes
of delegations that have passed will be accepted by the chair. Votes will then be tallied.
11.
The Chairperson of the Election Convention shall be responsible for overall conduct of all
officers of the Convention, and for the duties and responsibilities to be carried out by the
officers.
12.
Voting for all minor offices, Editor-in-Chief, and Committee Chairs will be by a plurality.
13.
Senate and House assignments are based on the number of votes received. For example, the
four (4) Committee Chairs receiving the highest number of votes will be elected to the
Senate, the next six (6) will serve in the house. (Candidates elected to the Senate may opt to
serve in the House, lower ranking chairs will then be promoted.)
Voting for Speaker, Lt. Governor, and Justices will require a majority of votes cast. In case
of run offs, persons not obtaining 10% of the votes, or the one with the least number of
votes, will be dropped from the ballot.
With Justices, the Justice candidate ending up with the most votes in the East in the even
years and the West in the odd years will be the Chief Justice.
13.
All election results will be certified by the State Office and placed on the website within one
week after completion of the second Election Convention.
14.
No proxy votes will be accepted at the Election Convention. Candidates for office who are
not present at the convention will be declared ineligible, and removed from the ballot.
The
Executive Director reserves the right to make exception to this rule under extreme
circumstances. In this case a surrogate may deliver speeches on the candidates behalf.
15.
Each delegation's allocation of seats in the Senate and House, and Page positions will be
announced in writing within one week of the second Election Convention. For delegations
granted "emergency miss" status, an allocation penalty based on their number of paid
registrants minus a percentage ascertained by calculating the overall percentage of registered
"no shows" will be applied to determine the delegation's allocations.
