CHAPTER 5: Elections Convention
Introduction
In November, Election Conventions are held in the Eastern and Western areas of Pennsylvania to
elect responsible student leaders for the Model Government Convention held at the State Capitol.
The Election Conventions are exciting events characterized by campaigning and political activity.
Candidates and their delegations are encouraged to prepare banners, signs and leaflets to promote
their candidacy. Campaign hats and noisemakers can be a colorful part of the day's activity (do not
use stickers).

The purpose of the Election Convention is to elect the following positions for Model Legislature:
Lt. Governor (2), Speaker of the House (2), Chief Justice, Editor-in-Chief, Justices (6), Clerk (4),

Attendees of Club Officers Training will elect the Election Convention Chairman. The row officers
will be selected by the club that hosts the convention. The Chairman may not run for statewide
office.
Election Convention Attendance Really Matters
Your club must send a delegation to the Election Convention in order to participate in the Model
Government Convention in the Capitol.
1.
The total number of
votes controlled by your delegation is determined by your club’s actual
attendance
at the convention.
