Can anyone tell me when we, as Y people, should really care about the image we project? (at
conferences like YG, when making presentations in the community, etc.)
Chart: What is the image we want to project, lets say at YG or Model UN? Be honest! (Hopefully
theyll get professional, leaders, emulate elected officials, etc., but maybe also hot, attractive, if
theyre being honest.)
Can you look both professional, like a leader and hothot but not hoochie? Give me an example
of a public figure who does this well.
(Chart) Give me some specific examples of clothing that is acceptablethat we could confidently
wear to project the image that we want and should project. How about examples of things that
should be off-limits?
When we dress in the clothing that weve just listed as off-limits, how do you think that others
perceive us? Lets start with adults. Guys? Other girls?
Do these rules apply only during business hours? How about at free time? Why or why not?
(Hopefully theyll see that they are still seen by others as leaders even in the off-hours and should
continue to project the proper image.)
Break group into about 8-10 groups. Give them two pieces of newsprint each and ask them to
design eitherthe good, the bad, the ugly. (Tape the two pieces together.) Have one person model
during fashion show and one person provide commentary on the persons outfit.
Applause!
(Chart) How can we communicate the message about dressing for success at conferences?
Generate ideas from the group about how to get buy-in from others.
