In the event of a Floor Caucus, have a strategy ready
Know which delegations cast votes for candidates out of the running and be
prepared to ask for their support
Know which ones divided their vote and try to secure them all
Assign people to approach delegations to ask for support
Negotiating for votes (Building Coalitions)

Campaign manager and Delegation Leader should work together on a strategy for
negotiating votes.
o
First rule…Never make a promise you are either unwilling or unable to keep!!!
o
Roll call votes make it easy to see who is reneging on a “deal.”
o
Rule #2 – Don’t sell out your own candidates!  It IS possible to negotiate votes without
jeopardizing any of your candidates, but, it may take some crafty coalition building
amongst several clubs!
