Part Three Organizing A Campaign
Once you have your candidates nominated, urge each of them to appoint a campaign
coordinator. You may even want to have a delegation campaign manager responsible for
overseeing all of the campaigns!!!
Campaign Coordinators Duties include:
o
Help the candidate prepare whatever speech he may have to give.
o
Establish a campaign team of delegates to help.
o
Determine how best to promote the candidate
Letters to other clubs
Posters for display at the Election Convention
Written resume for distribution at EC (NO candy, pens, etc.)
Person-to-person contact at EC devise a plan
o
Work with the Campaign Manager in planning a strategy for negotiating with other clubs
o
Recruit other club members to assist with the campaign by making posters, speaking
with delegates in other clubs, wearing stickers or buttons, etc.
Campaign Managers Duties include:
o
Ensure that all candidates have a coordinator
o
Ensure that all candidates have a promotion strategy
o
Ensure that all candidates have a campaign strategy
Activities BEFORE Election Convention
Activities AT Election Convention
o
Devise a strategy for negotiating votes with other clubs
Part Four Conducting a Campaign
The most important first step in any campaign is gaining exposure for your candidacy!
o
Send a letter to all other clubs (Especially NEW clubs) announcing that you are seeking
the office of _______.
o
The letter should also include a BRIEF resume containing ONLY that past experience
which relates directly to the position you are seeking.
o
The letter should answer the CRITICAL question, Why do you want to be ______?
o
The letter and resume should be 2 pages MAX!!
o
Include your name, address, telephone number, IM handle and e-mail address and invite
delegates to contact you.
Pre-Election Convention Strategy
o
Prepare a coherent, thoughtful speech to present to the delegates
Tell them why you want the position
Tell them what your goals are for the position
Be succinct, be brief then be seated!!!
Do NOT read your resume!
Be sure to tell them YOUR NAME!!!
o
Practice your speech multiple times in front of your club and have delegates critique your
performance.
o
Have a poster making party!
