Brief Writing Process
1. Start by reading the "Cases". The "Case" illustrates the legal argument on which the cases are based and lays out the questions to be answered.
2. Study the provided "Case Materials" to understand the "Fact Patterns", find relevant PA statutes & regulations, and read previous judicial decisions pertinent to the cases.
3. Review the "Case Histories". This contains a list of other court decisions which cite the cases above. Use this information to further research the cases for additional arguments.
4. Review the
Attorney Assignments
to get your case assignments.
5. Read the Judicial section of the "
Blue Book
" for information about writing your Brief.
Timeline for Judicial Program
Jan 22 or 29
- Mock Sessions - Bring copies of the 4 files listed above along with your additional research and a first draft of your brief.
February 1
- Schedule a meeting with a local attorney or Judge to review the cases and seek advice on your arguments.
March 1
- Schedule a follow-up meeting with your local attorney or Judge to review the Brief you intend to submit. Make any adjustments you deem necessary and prepare to submit your completed Brief.
March 19
- Submit final completed copies of your briefs to the Y&G office or online through the upload form below.
